Steve Vai- Guitar Wizard
Steve Vai
Born on June 6th, 1960 Steven Siro Vai is an Italian-American rock Guitar Wizard who is also a composer, song writer, vocalist as well as producer. He started his career as a music transcriptionist for the group Frank Zappa. He began his solo career in the year 1984 and has over 13 albums span his career until the year 2010. He also worked with Frank Zappa and also was associated with many other bands such as Alcatrazz, David Lee Roth and Whitesnake. Steve vai became the regular tour member for the G3 Guitar tour which began in the year 1996.
Steve mailed Frank Zappa one of his transcription works which is based on the "The Black Page", an instrumental work for drums. Along with the mail, he also sent a tape that contained a few of his Guitar Wizard jams. Frank Zappa was so impressed by the work that he immediately hired Steve Vai for transcribing all his solo works. All the transcriptions by the Steve Vai on Zappa's works were published in a book called The Frank Zappa Guitar Book in the year 1982.
Steve became a member of the Zappa band and toured along with the band transcribing all of his works. Zappa always referred Steve as his "little Italian Virtuoso" and Zappa always listened to him while he performed his "stunt Guitar". In the year 2006, he returned back to music to play for the song composed by Frank Zappa for his son, Dweezil Zappa in Zappa plays Zappa.
He moved to California in the year 1982 leaving Zappa. He recorded his first solo album Flex-Able in the same year and later on performed with many other bands. He even replaced another guitar wizard by the name of Yngwie Malmsteen, to be the lead guitarist for Graham Bonnet's Alcatrazz. Alcatrazz recorded the album "Disturbing the Peace" with Steve Vai.
In 1985, he joined David Lee Roth's group and recorded the albums "Skyscraper" and "Eat ‘Em and Smile". This proved to be advantageous for Vai as he was exposed to the general rock audience. In fact, he was largely compared to Eddie Van Halen by many reviewers. He joined Whitesnake in the year 1989 replacing Vivian Campbell. Vai played all the songs for the album "slip of the tongue" when the lead guitarist Adrian Vandenberg injured his wrist. He also played with Joe Satriani for the song "feed my Frankenstein" for Alice Cooper's album "Hey Stoopid".
All in all, Steve Vai has proven to be one of the most versatile guitar players in modern rock history. Steve is considered by many to be one of the top guitar wizards of all time.
