Caol Ila 12 years old or Distillers edition?
Which one is better? I haven't tried the 12 years old. The distillers edition finnished n Moscatel cask was fine, but a touch on the soft/sweet side and less peatty than I expected. I was thinking to try the 12 years old, but would there be significant difference?
Answer:
Caol Ila is not as peaty as the other Islay malts. Some attribute this to the distillery being on the other side of the island.I haven't had the Distillers Edition myself. I recommend you try it and get back to us. My personal take on the Caol Ila 12 year is that it is lighter than Lagavulin, Ardbeg and Laphraoig, but not sweet at all. That sweetness you mention must surely come from the moscatel cask.
